Introduction and objectives

Introduction and objectives:

Research and development is a dynamic process of connections of basic research, applied research and development research, the results of which are the production of technology and new salable products. In industrial environments, the unit where product research and development takes place is usually the (R&D) unit.

Research and development is a continuous and permanent process, not a one-time and once-for-all process. Undoubtedly, research is a dynamic factor and is like blood in the veins of the economic, social and cultural body of every country. Today, all the activities that lead to improving the quality of products, developing new products, using advanced technologies, improving the production process and reducing the cost, are all formed in the form of research and development activities.

Today, R&D activities are no longer considered a cost, but a type of investment, and this amount of investment is considered an indicator for the development of economic enterprises and organizations.

The role of research and development is more vital than any other element to move towards benefiting from science and technology. Research and development is necessary to align with the changing world. Nowadays, superiority in the competition depends more than before on capital in the key fields of technology and economicization of innovations resulting from targeted research and development.

The role and importance of research and development has been constantly improving and increasing since the second half of the 20th century. During the past 50 years, all countries, recognizing the important and determining role of research for development, each of them have used their attention and diligence in order to strengthen and improve the level of various research indicators.

The mission of productivity growth in the organization

The mission of increasing productivity in the organization is the responsibility of the research and development unit. For this purpose, it is necessary to examine the supply chain every moment and ensure the efficiency of the components of this chain.

Effective and efficient research and development needs both short-term and long-term results. The efforts that must be made are much more than being satisfied with short-term and quick results, while every small success is the result of a step that must be taken in a long-term and continuous process.

Research and development activities in companies should be focused on the best opportunities, opportunities that create new business or transform the entire business of the company. In general, the missions of a research and development unit can be summarized as follows:

Accurate understanding of the company’s current and future strategies
Discovery and understanding of market opportunities and needs
Discovering new ideas and turning them into products and business opportunities
Understanding and recognizing the trends of existing technologies and future technologies
Continuous innovation to create competitive advantages
Facing threats by maintaining competitive advantage and understanding competitors’ strategies
Continuous increase of research and development capacities, by raising the quality of human resources, the level of equipment and machinery, technical and engineering knowledge in the organization.
Transferring and localization of new technologies of the steel industry
Optimizing production processes and products, increasing production and increasing the added value of production products
Research to increase the productivity of production, machinery, manpower, materials and energy
Research to improve safety and environmental conditions in order to move towards sustainable production

Achieving the goals of the research and development unit requires increasing the value-creating ability of the economic enterprise through knowledge-based decisions and scientific management.
